DEAD TRIGGER brings gorgeous zombie mayhem to the iPhone and iPad

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 02:13 PM PDT

Madfinger Games’ highly anticipated zombie shooter – DEAD TRIGGER - has finally been unleashed onto the App Store. First announced earlier this month, the follow up to SHADOWGUN brings console quality FPS action to the small screen. The story is your typical zombie affair, with billions having been wiped out and now you must find a way to survive the onslaught. The graphics simply look amazing for a handheld device, and we have the Unity 3D engine to thank for that. Aside from the gorgeous visuals, players will be treated with more than 40 hours of gameplay, advanced ragdoll effects, and even get to decide whether they want to blow a zombie’s brains out or chop them up limb by limb (can anyone say Dead Island?). Best of all, the game’s only $0.99 on the App Store, not to mention that it’s a very friendly 116MB download. By the looks of it, Madfinger’s got another massive hit on their hands. Full PR and video trailer after the gap.

Google Chrome for iPhone and iPad now available

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 01:41 PM PDT

Announced earlier today during Google I/O, the Chrome browser has arrived for the iPhone and iPad.

Browse fast with Chrome, now available on your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Sign in to sync your personalized Chrome experience from your computer, and bring it with you anywhere you go.

Search fast
• Search and navigate fast, directly from the same box. Choose from results that appear as you type.

Simple, intuitive experience
• Open and quickly switch between an unlimited number of tabs. On your iPhone and iPod touch, flip through tabs the way you would fan a deck of cards. On iPad, swipe from edge to edge to switch tabs.

As noted before, Chrome for iOS supports multi-device sync, so once you sign in, you’ll have access to all your tabs, bookmarks, passwords and omnibox data from your PC/Mac. Incognito mode has even made its way over so users can browse the web without leaving any virtual trails. This is one (free) app current Chrome users need to have their iDevices.

Google Chrome set to arrive on iOS

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 11:29 AM PDT

Great news for all you Chrome users. Google has announced during its annual developer conference (Google I/O) that its Chrome Browser will soon be coming to all iOS devices. This news comes shortly after Google made it known during their keynote that Chrome now has 310 million active users, making it the world’s most popular web browser. Like the Google Drive app (which was just released), Chrome for the iPhone and iPad will arrive on the App Store later today. The app’s biggest feature will be its sync ability, where tabs, passwords, history and settings will be automatically made available whenever users log in. This means that you’ll soon be able to browser jump from a PC/Mac to your iDevice and pick up where you left off, something that Yahoo! implemented through its recently released Axis browser.

As an avid Chrome user myself, I can’t wait to be able to sync all my tabs and bookmarks between my iPhone/iPad and iMac. We’ll keep you posted on when Chrome for iOS will slip into the App Store.

Google Drive app now available for iOS

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 11:05 AM PDT

Google Drive has landed on iOS. First launched by Google back in April, Drive is a cloud storage service like Dropbox that will allow its users to store their files on Google’s servers – as well as on their PCs and Macs. And with the release of the iOS app, Drive users can finally access and view their documents, images etc. on the iPhone and iPad. The app also supports offline viewing, file sharing with collaborators, starring or important files and more. If you don’t have a Drive account, you can get started here, where all new users get 5 GB free of storage space. Google Drive is a free download and now available on the App Store.

Apple said to be planning major overhaul for iTunes later this year

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 10:13 AM PDT

Bloomberg reported earlier today that Apple will be making significant changes to iTunes for its next major release (iTunes 11?), this according to those with “direct knowledge of the matter”. As part of the overhaul, iTunes will include deeper iCloud Integration, which will help make it easier for users to access all their media files from various iDevices. Perhaps even more significant, will be an improved experience for discovering content, primarily through a new song sharing feature that would allow friends to listen for free. Currently through the (doomed) Ping service found on iTunes, users can only listen to 30 second previews of songs that have been recommended by friends.

Zombie Run HD in Review – Temple Huh?

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 06:23 AM PDT

There's no question that Temple Run added a whole new dimension to infinite runners with it's over the shoulder view, ability to slide in that view, and cool mechanic of turning to continue down a winding path.  There are even times when I'm playing Zombie Run that I think to myself how the game feels like Temple Run with a different skin.  Zombie Run bears many similarities to its predecessor, yet it still manages to be entertaining in its own right.  I'm not saying I've forgotten you, Temple Run, but now you have to share the spotlight.(...)

Vorzüge VorzAMPpure and VorzAMPduo headphone amps in Review – There’s none more black

Posted: 28 Jun 2012 01:08 AM PDT

Okay, apes, it’s time to toss bones to the firmament. It’s time to beat on your mates and rip sinews from the teeth of angry panthers. Evolution’s catching us up again. This time, however, it’s the Germans, not Americans, who are pressing us to the edge of the audiophile solar system. The eponymous VorzAMP has its sights and prices set high, and has been the cause of an infatuated uproar among Japanese audiophiles for quite a turn. I think you will agree with them that you don’t need a Discovery-sized headphone amp to blast off toward Jupiter. The lovely fräulein, VorzAMP, is beautiful to hold, behold, and listen to.

Buy Me a Pie! now Free for a week

Posted: 27 Jun 2012 11:52 AM PDT

Buy Me a Pie!, one of the more popular grocery list type apps for iOS (and one of the best I’ve come across thus far) is now free until July 4th – just in time to help you get ready for those fourth of July parties you’ve been planning. Normally priced at $2.99, Buy Me a Pie! features a clean interface and a built-in grocery items dictionary for snappy list creations. Best of all, all your items and lists can be synced across multiple iDevices once you’ve created a free user account (it literally takes 10 seconds). So if you share your login info with your friends and family, you can all manage the shopping lists as a group. Even if they don’t have an iPhone/iPad or the app, they can still head over to buymeapie.com on any browser, log in from there and add/edit the items. Give it a try and you’ll never want to go back to using the Notes.app again for making grocery lists. Video demo after the break.

Give Color Splash Studio a new name and you could win a $500 Gift card

Posted: 27 Jun 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Color Splash Studio for the iPhone and Mac will soon be getting a major update (with a new UI and “exceptional” features) and Macphun has decided to give the app a whole new name (probably has to do with the fact that it sounds awfully similar to Color Splash - one of the first of its kind on the App Store). Basically, the app converts photographs into black and white and users can easily keep certain areas in its original color, thus give it a more dramatic effect. And this is where you come in. As part of the name change challenge, Macphun has invited you to come up with a new name, with the winner taking home a $500 gift card, a mention in all PR materials, along with 10 copies of the app and free copies of other apps by MacPhun. If you’re feeling creative and wish to enter, simply head over to the New Name landing page and enter the required details. The Color Splash Studio apps are well received on the App Store and currently on sale as well ($0.99 for iPhone, $2.99 for Mac).

5 Years of the iPhone: 250 million units shipped and $150 Billion in Revenue

Posted: 27 Jun 2012 08:36 AM PDT

With a blink of an eye, the iPhone will turn 5 this week. First officially launched in the US on June 29, 2007, the iPhone entered the mobile phone market at a time when RIM and Palm (remember the Palm Treo?) were still at the top of their game. To mark the occasion, research firm Strategy Analytics have gathered some staggering numbers in their latest report: 250 million iPhones shipped and $150 billion in revenue for Apple.
