Apple Rolls out four new iPhone 5 ads

Posted: 22 Sep 2012 08:24 AM PDT

As expected with every major product release, Apple has posted 4 new ads highlighting some of the best new features of the iPhone 5. “Physics” (as seen above) shows off the phone’s bigger screen and slimmer build by posing the question “how can something get bigger, and smaller?”; “Cheese” demos the cool new panoramic feature of its 8MP camera; ”Thumb“ emphasizes how the 4-inch display still works great with one hand; and ”Ears” focuses on the redesigned EarPods, which are now “ear-shaped” and can actually fit in your ears. If the narrator sounds familiar, that’s because it’s Jeff Daniels, otherwise known as Harry Dunne in Dumb & Dumber. Hit the gap to check out the rest of the 30 second ads.

iPhone 5 already jailbroken

Posted: 22 Sep 2012 07:49 AM PDT

Well that didn’t take long to jailbreak the iPhone 5. Renowned Cydia dev Grant Paul (aka Chpwn) tweeted last night an image of an iPhone 5 running Cydia, which is the first known jailbreak for Apple’s latest iDevice and A6 chip. Another tweet shows a 640 x 1136 screenshot (the new iPhone’s display resolution) of Cydia’s homepage. This iPhone 5 Jailbreak is not currently available to the public, and it’s not currently known when it will be. Hopefully, it’ll be sooner rather than later, as I’m definitely missing tweaks like SBSettings and Zephyr on mine. Two days ago, a jailbreak for iOS 6 was released in the form of redsn0w, though it is a tethered one and only works on the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th gen and iPhone 3GS.

How easy is it to scratch or crack the iPhone 5 screen? [Video]

Posted: 21 Sep 2012 09:30 AM PDT

Wondering how durable your new iPhone 5 is and whether its screen is easy to crack from accidental drops? Repair site iFixYouri has put the just released iPhone 5 to the test by scratching its 4″ screen with a razon blade and keys, as well as dropping it from varying heights. Judging from the video, it appears that the front glass is even more scratch resistant than before, and the screen didn’t break from multiple falls (until it was basically thrown on the ground).

This phone is by far the most durable iPhone we have seen. The strengthened new gorilla glass, paired with the light design is definitely beneficial to the iPhone being able to survive your average drop.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [September 10 - 16]

Posted: 19 Sep 2012 03:00 AM PDT

This week provided a nice mix of genres for the diverse iOS gamer.  Fans of crazy sports games could sink their time into Wonderputt, a new mini-golf game with some interesting course design.  You actually get to see some of the holes being created, and it can be almost as fun to watch as to play.  If you're looking for a different type of adventure try Escape The House: A 3D Sound Experience.  This happens to be a promotional tool for an upcoming horror movie, and given the game play genre it actually makes interesting use of the features your iOS device has to offer.  Pokemon and Final Fantasy fans can converge on Guardian Cross, the latest offering from Square Enix.  This "collect and fight" style game has an incredible development pedigree, and apparently is completely playable without spending a penny.

ReaddleDocs for iPhone Goes Free (was $4.99)

Posted: 18 Sep 2012 12:38 PM PDT

ReaddleDocs, an awesome and highly useful file manager app for the iPhone, has gone free on the App Store.

ReaddleDocs is all-in-one document reader for iPhone and iPod Touch.

It can catch documents from any source you can imagine: PC or Mac computers, web sites, email attachments, iDisk, Dropbox and other online file storages and even iPhones. All files are saved to your iPhone or iPod Touch locally so you can enjoy reading them anywhere!

Besides being able to unzip files and merge several into archive, the app also features a more than capable PDF viewer that supports text reflow, highlighting, full text search and more. Be sure to snag this while it’s free, which probably won’t last more than a day or two.

Grab some iPhone 5 cases now for only $1.50 each + shipping

Posted: 18 Sep 2012 12:20 PM PDT

If you’ve already pre-ordered the iPhone 5 or are planning on lining up for one come Friday, chances are you’ve already thought about buying a case to protect your shiny new toy. Well then, here’s a pretty sweet deal you can take advantage of while the offer lasts. Made by BoxWave, their iPhone 5 cases are currently on sale for $9.95 (down from $29.95). But if you pre-order them on Amazon and enter the coupon code LUVAPPLE under the “Gift Cards & Promotional Codes” section when checking out, each case can be yours for a low, low price of $1.50 + shipping.

I personally picked up the Boxwave Minimus and Blackout cases for $1.50 each, and with shipping (to Canada), it came to $9.20 total. Not too shabby eh. Granted, they’re not out yet and don’t ship until September 28th (not to mention that I’ve never tried this company’s accessories before), but for the price, I think it may be worth the gamble.

Latest iPad Mini leak shows off tablet’s front and backside

Posted: 18 Sep 2012 11:45 AM PDT

Most would agree that the iPhone 5 was one of the worse kept secrets in the tech world. By the time it was unveiled in the media event on Sept. 12, those who followed the rumour mill closely weren’t all that surprised with the ’5′ thanks to factory design and spec leaks. With the way things are going, the iPad Mini isn’t too far behind – at least in the leaks department. The latest Mini leaked images to appear on the web comes from Chinese site BoLoPad.com, which posted several shots of Apple’s long rumoured 7.85″ tablet.

Move over Angry Birds: Rovio’s Bad Piggies gets first gameplay trailer [Video]

Posted: 18 Sep 2012 09:52 AM PDT

Rovio has released the first gameplay trailer of Bad Piggies, their next mobile offering starring not those iconic birds, but the adorable love ’em or hate ’em pigs. As we all know, Angry Birds is all about destruction; Bad Piggies, however, requires players to build stuff. According to Yahoo Games!:

Bad Piggies takes a page from game maker Rovio’s other recent hit, Amazing Alex, by letting players build curious contraptions for the pigs as they set out to steal more of those delicious eggs. You’ll craft all sorts of shoddy vehicles, from rickety flying machines to creaky jalopies, and then steer your hunk of junk through winding courses as you try to “three-star” the levels.

Fox 5 NY: iPhone 5 has a laser keyboard and other cool features

Posted: 18 Sep 2012 08:17 AM PDT

Been out of the loop and still wandering what kinds of features the iPhone 5 is packed with when it launches this Friday? Well just know that it doesn’t have a laser keyboard (which is something you actually can buy as an accessory) or holographic images, as reported by local affiliate Fox 5 News.

“Starting at $200, the iPhone 5 is sleeker, has a laser keyboard, holographic images and other cool new features”.

The futuristic iPhone shown is actually a clip from Aatma Studio’s 2011 video titled ”iPhone 5 Concept Features”. It goes without saying that a news editor or 2 neglected to do basic fact-checking. Well at least they got the starting price right.
