Twitter app update: Expanded Tweets, improved notifications and more

Twitter for iOS was updated earlier this afternoon and users will undoubtedly welcome the new additions. Twitter’s expanded tweets feature, which you’ve likely experienced already online (and on the mobile site) has made its way onto the iPhone and iPad (this is being rolled out gradually, so it’s possible that tweets don’t expand for you just yet). For those not familiar, users expanding tweets to partner sites (NYT, WSJ, TIME etc) will see content previews, view images and even be able to play videos right then without leaving the page. One example of this is if you tap on that Kickstarter tweet on your iPhone, you’ll be able watch the project video directly from the Tweet details view in the app.

Next Issue brings all-you-can-read magazine store to iPad for $10 a month

Reading digital magazines on your iPad has just gotten a whole lot more affordable. Next Issue, the buffet-style magazine app that was first released on Android devices 3 months ago, has finally arrived on iOS. Essentially the netflix for magazines, a monthly subscription of $9.99 will give you unlimited access to 34 titles (which are ”enhanced digital editions, optimized for tablets”) including Car and Driver, Elle, Esquire, GQ, Vanity Fair and Wired. For an extra 5 bucks a month (the “premium” plan – $14.99), you’ll get in addition all the weekly magazines, and they include Entertainment Weekly, People, Sports Illustrated, The New Yorker and Time. As Engadget noted, Next Issue Media hopes to double their catalog by year’s end, as well as add additional publishers to the mix. The iOS app is a free download, and new customers get to try out the service FREE for 30 days. Promotional trailer and how-to videos after the break.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [July 2 - 8]

Christmas in July is over, but there were still some interesting games that made their way to the App Store this week.  As a fan of the undead I'm willing to give most zombie games a try, and while I'm not a huge word game fan I quite enjoyed the time I spent with ZombieWords so far.  It will definitely test your ability to spell words quickly, and proves that games don't have to be action oriented to provide tense situations.  If you're in the mood for something a bit zanier, why not give Chillingo's Jar On A Bar a try?  The ability to flick pieces adds a whole new dimension to the game play, and the fish is really cute.  Finally, strategy buffs might appreciate the turn based mayhem of Outwitters.  If it's got the same humor and ease of playability of its predecessor Tilt To Live then it should be an instant classic.

Squids Wild West in Review – The Good, The Bad, or the Ugly?

Everyone's favourite squids have ridden their way back into our palms in The Game Bakers latest entry into the cult classic Squids franchise. Squids Wild West continues the story of the first game (TMA Review) and pulls the setting into an adorable underwater Western world. The Game Bakers have stuck to what they know, which in this case is a very good thing. While little has changed from Squids, subtle improvements have been made to the game's fluidity, along with minor introductions such as mounted seahorses for your squid-slinging pleasure.

This speaker does everything you could ask for.
I use it with my MOTO Droid. It works seamlessly with the Bluetooth connection and has the ability to pause, change tracks, and even answer incoming calls. It also has a wired connection if you don't need as much portability, and this gives even louder sound and better quality as can be expected with a hardwired connection.

The battery life is awesome too and the fact that its rechargeable puts it at the top of the class IMO.

The sound quality is great for such a small speaker and it even packs some decent bass levels. The build quality seems very durable and easily compacts for simple storage when travelling.

I would love for them to come out with something similar to this that would also be waterproof for use in the shower. I keep mine on the sink when showering and it fills the entire bathroom with sound.

Highly recommended.

Defender Chronicles II: Heroes of Athelia in Review – Skeletal Genocide on an Evil Scale

As someone who spends quite a bit of time with the many forms of iOS, I see roughly as many Tower Defense games in a month as there are base foot soldiers in any given TD game. However, every so often one of them is good enough to break through my defenses and march straight into my good books. Such is the challenge facing Gimka Entertainment with their offering of Defender Chronicles II: Heroes of Athelia.

Subtle improvements over the previous version December 12, 2010 By J. Welch

I've owned the Soundsticks III for close to a month now and have been thoroughly impressed. Harman claims the new model provides the same audio quality as the previous edition. The new version III audio cables are silver braided and clear. Other changes include black bases on the satellites, the black sub volume dial is also the power on/off switch, and there is a white led light in the sub. Input voltage on the power transformer is 100v-240v, so it will work outside the US without the use of a converter. One thing worth noting, since it is not in the manual, is that the satellite with the volume controls is the right speaker.
I find the sound stage to be vivid and non-fatiguing. The instruments and voices are crisp and detailed. I mainly listen to 80's, classic rock, and metal, and all appear to be clear and balanced. I can easily listen for extended periods without being fatigued. IMO this is one of the best 2.1 computer speaker systems available. You will not be disappointed.
