CIA: Operation Ajax now available for the iPad…and It’s Free (for a limited time)

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 01:05 PM PST

After over a year in the making, CIA : Operation Ajax, an ambitious interactive graphic novel brought to you by Cognito Comics, is finally out on the App Store. Designed specifically for the iPad, Operation Ajax tells the story of the Iranian Coup (backed by the CIA) during the early 50′s, and it’s based on the book All the Shah’s Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror by Stephen Kinzer. The graphic novel is 210 pages long and features moving animations, ambient sound effect, bonus content (character dossiers, historial newsreels, authentic declassified docs from the CIA etc) and even its own original musical score. This is certainly not your typical comic book in the form of an app. Best of all, Operation Ajax is currently free for the next two week, after which the $7.99 price tag kicks in. If you have an iPad, this is defintely worth checking out, especially now that it’s a freebie. Video demo after the break.

Instapaper, arguably the most popular and well liked read it later service around, will soon be facing some serious competition on iOS. Readability announced via their blog today that not only are they finally offering their (basic) service for free, but that it’s also coming to iDevices:

Both Readability accounts and our companion apps will always be completely free, but we also offer a premium experience for users who want additional features and an easy way to support their favorite writers and publishers.

Readability is on its way to the iTunes App Store. Our new apps for the iPhone and iPad are free and undeniably beautiful. We've partnered with the design wizards at Teehan+Lax to deliver a simple, elegant experience featuring exclusive typography from some of the best in type: Hoefler & Frere-Jones. There's never been a better way to read the web on iOS. Readability for iOS is submitted and awaiting approval from Apple.

Readability strives to provide users with a seamless reading experience on the web. Like Instapaper, you can save articles for viewing at a later time, and similar to Safari’s Reader functionality, the Readability bookmarklet allows you to strip away all the excess found on a webpage and be left with only a column of text. The new free account allow you to view up to 30 of the most recent articles you’ve saved. Meanwhile, the Premium account will cost a minimum of $5 per month (works much like a donation system), where 70% of it will go towards the publishers you’ve chosen to consume on Readability.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [Nov. 7 - 13]

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 08:15 AM PST

This week's 10 New App Store Games to Watch includes bad boy antics, arcade classics and undead kinfolk. From Gameloft we have Gangstar Rio: City Of Saints, the next installment of their "I wanna be like GTA" series. There are plenty of missions, lots of weapons, and even a tank, so I think all you manly types are pretty well set. If you're nostalgic for the "old days" you can try Asteroids GUNNER for free. It's a modern take on one of the first space shooters, and it looks to do its predecessor justice. Puzzle fans that are itching to blow zombies away should give Corpse Granny a spin. You'll control all sorts of items, including 4 different types of fireballs, all in a quest to rid three separate realms of zombie invaders.
