WSJ: iPhone 5 to feature in-cell screen technology, allowing for thinner and improved display

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 01:42 PM PDT

One of the things we hear most about when it comes to the iPhone 5 is that it will sport a bigger 4″ Retina Display. The Wall Street Journal reported back in May that Apple had already begun to place orders for screens that are “at least” 4 inches diagonally for the next generation iPhone. And now the publication is reporting (along with a tweet) that the new 2012 iPhone will feature an all new touchscreen technology that will allow for the display to be even thinner. This is in line with a previous rumour that speculated the iPhone 5 will be 20% slimmer than the iPhone 4S (9.3mm vs 7.4mm).

Unleash your inner Eminem with Smule’s AutoRap app

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 10:49 AM PDT

Fans of Smule’s trippy musical iOS apps (Magic PianoI Am T-PainOcarina and MadPad) will now be able to make more sweet music in the rap category, thanks to the release of AutoRap. A creation born out of the merger between Smule and Khush, AutoRap lets even the most rap-challenged individuals sound like an aspiring rapper. Using a patent-pending "rappification" technology, the app features a Talk Mode that turns your ordinary speech into unique sounding rap songs. With Rap Mode, you can show off your rap skills by following the lyrics that scroll across the screen. Rest assured, first timers will have their flow corrected to “snap” their syllables back to song’s beat. AutoRap (free universal download) starts you off with some Freestyle sounds, and premium songs from popular artists can be purchased via IAP. Time to watch 8 Mile again before turning the iPhone into an all-out beatbox. Videos of AutoRap in action after the break.

10 New App Store Games To Watch [July 8 - 14]

Posted: 17 Jul 2012 07:08 AM PDT

The Rovio masses can rejoice, because the developer that created an empire apparently can do something besides disgruntled fowl.  Their latest offering is a game called Amazing Alex, and it takes the concept of The Incredible Machine to the next level.  Besides offering many prebuilt levels with the promise of more to come, it offers players a level editor to create and share their own masterpieces.  If you're itching to stretch your trigger finger you might try Metal Slug 3, the pixel perfect iOS port of a Neo Geo legend.  Save some disheveled hostages, drive lots of cool vehicles, and join a friend for some Bluetooth co-op play.  If you're more of the adventurous type Avenue Flo could be right up your alley.  This latest Diner Town offering from Play First ditches the time management pretense and lets you see familiar characters in a whole new way as you help Flo make sure a big wedding doesn't turn into an even bigger disaster.  Are you listening, Larry King?
