Apple releases Podcasts app for iPhone and iPad Posted: 26 Jun 2012 12:41 PM PDT Gearing up for the eventual release of iOS 6, Apple has released earlier today a standalone app for discovering, subscribing, and playing podcasts on your iDevice. Simply called Podcasts, the universal app will help streamline the entire podcast experience on your iPhone and iPad. Currently on iOS 5, you you can stream and listen to podcasts right from the iTunes.app, but if any were downloaded for offline listening, you’d have to make your way to the Music.app to access those files. Now with Podcasts, everything is done under one roof. An all-new “innovative” new Top Stations feature lets users find and try new podcasts from a variety of categories, including arts, business, comedy and more. Get your fill of Dennis “The Worm” Rodman in Rodman FT Posted: 26 Jun 2012 11:09 AM PDT Quick. Think of several things that pop up in your head when you hear the name Dennis Rodman. You’d probably thought of the bad boy image on and off the basketball court, the time he wore a wedding dress to promote his autobiography, and of course, his rebounding prowess (for those of you who didn’t watch the NBA during the 80′s and 90′s, “The Worm” is considered one of the greatest rebounders of all-time). So the last thing to cross your mind has to be Rodman shooting free throws, right? (he is after all a career .584 shooter from the charity strip). Well, leave it to Tantrum Solutions to bring the former Detroit Piston and Chicago Bull All-Star to the iDevice with Rodman FT. 10 New App Store Games To Watch [June 18 - 24] Posted: 26 Jun 2012 07:02 AM PDT Once again there was a nice variety of games to report on this week, and the highlight of the week for me was the adventure game Yesterday from BulkyPix. After spending just a few minutes with this game I felt like I was playing an old masterpiece from Sierra Online or LucasArts, but one that had been given an interface boost that makes it perfect for touch screen devices. The causal RPG fan should check out Elphis Adventure, a new free offering from Com2us. You take on the role of Red Riding Hood in an attempt to rescue your grandma by traveling through different fairy tales and historical time periods. For those that are interested in learning Magic The Gathering, or those that are just looking for another avenue with which to play the game, Wizards of the Coast offers up Magic 2013. You can sample the card based strategy game for free, but if you want to test your mettle against other humans you'll need to buy the premium edition. Official Gmail app for iOS updated with Notification support and more Posted: 26 Jun 2012 06:35 AM PDT Google has updated their Gmail app with several handy (and overdue) features that could lure back previous users who’ve since jumped onto the Sparrow bandwagon. First and foremost is the full integration of iOS’ Notification Center, meaning you can finally setup banner, alert and lock screen notifications whenever new emails arrive into your inbox. According to Google, notifications are now “5x faster than in the previous version”. Also new is the “Send-as” feature, which gives users the ability to send emails with alternate email addresses. For this to work, you’ll first need to set it up in Gmail on your PC/Mac under Settings –> Accounts –> Send mail as, where you can add another email addy you own. Once configured, you’ll see a From: option when composing new messages right from within the app. (...) © louis for TouchMyApps, 2012. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us |
