Buy Me a Pie! now Free for a week

Posted: 27 Jun 2012 11:52 AM PDT

Buy Me a Pie!, one of the more popular grocery list type apps for iOS (and one of the best I’ve come across thus far) is now free until July 4th – just in time to help you get ready for those fourth of July parties you’ve been planning. Normally priced at $2.99, Buy Me a Pie! features a clean interface and a built-in grocery items dictionary for snappy list creations. Best of all, all your items and lists can be synced across multiple iDevices once you’ve created a free user account (it literally takes 10 seconds). So if you share your login info with your friends and family, you can all manage the shopping lists as a group. Even if they don’t have an iPhone/iPad or the app, they can still head over to buymeapie.com on any browser, log in from there and add/edit the items. Give it a try and you’ll never want to go back to using the Notes.app again for making grocery lists. Video demo after the break.

Give Color Splash Studio a new name and you could win a $500 Gift card

Posted: 27 Jun 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Color Splash Studio for the iPhone and Mac will soon be getting a major update (with a new UI and “exceptional” features) and Macphun has decided to give the app a whole new name (probably has to do with the fact that it sounds awfully similar to Color Splash - one of the first of its kind on the App Store). Basically, the app converts photographs into black and white and users can easily keep certain areas in its original color, thus give it a more dramatic effect. And this is where you come in. As part of the name change challenge, Macphun has invited you to come up with a new name, with the winner taking home a $500 gift card, a mention in all PR materials, along with 10 copies of the app and free copies of other apps by MacPhun. If you’re feeling creative and wish to enter, simply head over to the New Name landing page and enter the required details. The Color Splash Studio apps are well received on the App Store and currently on sale as well ($0.99 for iPhone, $2.99 for Mac).

5 Years of the iPhone: 250 million units shipped and $150 Billion in Revenue

Posted: 27 Jun 2012 08:36 AM PDT

With a blink of an eye, the iPhone will turn 5 this week. First officially launched in the US on June 29, 2007, the iPhone entered the mobile phone market at a time when RIM and Palm (remember the Palm Treo?) were still at the top of their game. To mark the occasion, research firm Strategy Analytics have gathered some staggering numbers in their latest report: 250 million iPhones shipped and $150 billion in revenue for Apple.
